Scott Rolen is a retired Major League Baseball third baseman. Scott is considered by many to be one of the best fielding third basemen in Major League Baseball history. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies (’93-’97), St. Louis Cardinals (’00-’08), Toronto Blue Jays (’08), and Cincinnati Reds (’09).

  • 1997 National League Rookie of the Year

  • Eight-time Gold Glove Winner (1998, 2000-2006, 2010)

  • Seven-time National League All-Star 2002–2006, 2010, 2011)

  • National League Silver Slugger (2002)

  • Third Baseman with the Cardinals for the 2006 World Series Championship

  • Reading Phillies Hall of Fame in 2015

  • St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fames in 2019

  • Continues to appear on balloting for the National Baseball Hall of Fame

Rolen finished his career with a .281/.364/.490 batting line, 316 home runs, 2,077 hits, and 1,287 RBIs. These accolades rank him among the top fifteen in career wins above replacement for third basemen all-time, as calculated by Fangraphs.com. He also defined himself through his character: he was a reserved star who played the game with all-out effort.

Throughout his career, Rolen took advantage of his platform to make a difference in the lives of others, visiting sick children in the hospital and providing children and their families with momentary relief. Rolen started a children’s charity—the Enis Furley Foundation/E5 Foundation—with the mission of putting smiles on the faces of kids who were ill or had fallen on hard times. In addition, Rolen created a 115-acre recreation site—Camp Emma Lou—with log cabins, horses, canoes, and a baseball field. Families were allowed to stay at the site with all expenses paid by the charity. Rolen takes immense pride in his off-the-field work.

E5 Baseball Campfire Tournaments were created by Scott Rolen and Dan Held, two retired professional baseball players and best friends, who want to ensure the love of the game lives on in the next generation.

Scott and Dan are considered “old school” or “throwback” players, which means they played the game with respect for their opponents and the game of baseball. Throwback players run on and off the field between innings and give everything they have on the base paths. The weekend is meant to pass along this style of baseball to the next generation.
